You may be wondering about the different types of towing and which to use. There are basically two kinds of towing, Flatbeds & Wheel-Lifts. We will be happy to explain in detail and give you further advice if you contact us. For your convenience, a brief explanation is offered below.
Wheel Lift Towing
This is probably the type of towing that most people think of when you talk about towing a vehicle. It involves towing a vehicle along behind a tow truck with either the front or rear wheels of the towed vehicle being on the ground. This type of towing is suitable for short tow distances, such as when you have broken down and simply need a tow home or to a repair shop. Most cars and light vans can be easily handled this way.
Flat Bed Towing
Sometimes wheel lift towing isn't the best way to deal with a towing job and it will be better to use a flatbed truck. There are many reasons why this might be the case. Occasionally, for reasons to do with the design of a particular car, the manufacturer will specify that it should be towed only on a flatbed truck with its wheels off the ground. Just as cars differ in their method of manufacturer they can need to be towed in a specific way.
Flatbed towing is also the preferred method of transporting a vehicle for longer distances. The car can be secured on the flatbed truck and will not be subjected to the additional weight being forced on only one side of tires.
Our fleet of tow trucks are fully equipped to handle any type of car.
For instance, vehicles which are fitted with a ride leveling system, air shock absorbers or computer controlled suspensions of any other kind, could suffer damage if they are secured to a flatbed by the traditional method of fitting chains to the vehicle’s front and rear. These vehicles need to be fitted with a system that allows all four wheels to be tied down independently so that their suspension systems can operate normally to adjust to the movement of the truck.
